SAIS Perspectives held our annual exhibition of the winning photos from the 2018 photo contest and launched our 2018-19 issue on October 23, 2018 on the SAIS DC campus and October 24 on the SAIS Bologna campus. In DC, Perspectives partnered with the Foreign Policy Institute’s Big Picture Initiative, the Dean’s Forum, and Focus on the Story to bring documentary photographer James Whitlow Delano to campus to discuss his recent work on the impact of President Duterte’s drug war on poor families in the Philippines. He was joined for a panel discussion by Professor Tanvi Nagpal, the Director of the International Development program. In Bologna, Dr. Michael Plummer, the Director of SAIS Europe, spoke about the theme of this year’s issue of SAIS Perspectives, “Work in a Changing World.”

Both events celebrated the 15 winners of the 2018 photo contest and exhibited their work. To see the winning photos, click here. Rory O’Connor (MIPP ‘19) won first place with a photo he took while deployed in Afghanistan. Read the story of his photo here.
