Like most Yazidis living on Mount Sinjar in August 2014, the father and daughter pictured here were forced to walk eight days in the scorching heat to evade capture from ISIS advances. Ultimately, they made it into Kurdish-controlled Syria, Rojava, where they were rescued by YPG fighters and brought to safety. The father expressed his desire to return home to Sinjar, but only if the security of his family was guaranteed.

This is a wedding convoy of Hazaras. They are mostly Twelver Shia Muslims, who are native to Afghanistan and have distinct Asian features. Persecuted for their ethno-religious identity by succession of rulers, they have formed diaspora communities in neighboring countries only to face more socio-economic difficulties and discrimination. Migration and displacement is not a novel challenge. Decades of conflict, persecution and political instability force millions out of their homeland. Despite neglect and lack of predictability, refugees persevere, adapt and contribute to their host countries' economies. Traditions are passed on to next generations, dreams of a peaceful homeland are kept alive and life goes on.

Warwick Junction's Bovine Market is the scene of a great Zulu traditional delicacy. Armed with axes and saws, a collection of well-respected women split cows' heads apart each morning, boiling the skulls and serving the tender meat to the men and women of the community.

Evros is one of the main immigration pathways to the Greece. It depicts the struggle of the arriving immigrants, who come there to escape the harsh reality of their counties, only to realize that they are trapped in a foreign country as ghost citizens.

Look closely! There are about four people and a truck in this photo. What you’re looking at is an aerial view of the Argestan River in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. This portion of the river meanders from east to west and is ecologically significant in southern Kandahar as the farming society here tussles between arid dry seasons and monsoon-like wet seasons.

This is Colby, "the businessman." He lives in a low income area of Accra, Ghana where a large percentage of the population are necessity entrepreneurs. Colby, however, wasn't forced into it. He chose it. When so many of his high school classmates are trying to find a way to leave Ghana, Colby scours the markets looking for items to buy and sell. Unlike many others, his goal isn't to leave the country, but to create businesses that will help him stay in it.

I would often find myself being approached by Cambodian children who would call out “Madame” and ask me to buy a random assortment of goods. It pained me to see these children living in such destitution but I knew that by purchasing the items I would be enabling their exploitation. Due to inefficient child labor laws, you will often find Cambodian children working along side their parents, rather than being in school, as they try to peddle to the millions of tourists who come to visit the glorious temples.

Adjacent to my hotel was a dirt field and I thought nothing of it until I woke Friday morning to the sounds of cheers and friendly jeers. It sounded like a baseball game. It wasn’t; it was a cricket match. More accurately, it was a practice session. The employees of the Al Sharq Hospital were practicing for a cricket league match against another hospital in the coming week.
